Our resident microbiologist Dr Kate Stephens gives her expert opinion on 'probiotic rotation' in a recent article from Stylist.
We’re incredibly proud of the team of experts we have in the Optibac Probiotics family (for good reason!). So, we’re always delighted when they’re featured in the press – and our very own Dr Kate Stephens has just been included in a recent article on the Stylist website.
The article, entitled ‘‘Probiotic rotation’ is set to be the next gut health trend – but does it actually improve digestion?’, explores whether changing up the probiotics you take is better than always sticking to the same strains (types).
Our Dr Kate was asked for her expert opinion on the matter, and she advised that switching up your strains “may not be that simple or effective”.
She goes on to explain that in clinical research, most probiotics are taken consistently over a particular time period and that there is a “lack of evidence” for alternating probiotic bacteria.
According to Dr Kate, the most important thing is to “choose a high-quality strain that has been researched specifically for your needs”. A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work with probiotics, as different strains have different benefits in the body.
Finally, she gives some of her personal friendly bacteria recommendations, including Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM® for digestive health and occasional bloating, Lactobacillus paracasei CASEI 431® for immune health, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG for children’s health.
You can find these strains in Optibac Every Day EXTRA, Immune Support and Babies & Children respectively.
