We are so excited that our supplements have been recommended in a new article on the Daily Mail.
This article, by qualified nutritionist and hypnotherapist Chloe Brotheridge, highlights and provides tips that have been tried and tested to help ease anxiety and menopause related stress.
The relationship between gut health and anxiety is something that we have found quite intriguing, and we certainly found the tips in this article practical. The article states up to 22% of women in the UK feel anxious 'most of the time', and this can get worse especially at times the female body goes through hormonal changes.
A study quoted in the article found that gut bacteria could help promote the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). GABA is a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system that has a calming effect on the brain.
As covered in the piece, the types of foods we eat could either help to ease or to worsen anxiety. Pro- and prebiotics are mentioned as being beneficial to stress levels.
"As well as feeding good bacteria, prebiotic foods lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Great sources are garlic, onions, leeks and chives, as well as peas, avocado, asparagus and Jerusalem artichokes. Probiotic food sources include natural yoghurt, kefir (a fermented milk drink) and sauerkraut (fermented cabbage)."
The importance of ensuring that our diets promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut was highlighted in this article. As well as making sure our diets support our gut heath, the article recommends taking probiotic supplements.
"Consider supplements containing Lactobacillus (a friendly bacteria found in some fermented foods) and Bifidobacterium. A supplement with a mix of these strains is available from Optibac Probiotics"
I would recommend having a look at this article as it provides some great tips on how to improve your diet to beat anxiety, as well as some fabulous recipes!
