With the London Marathon racing towards us on the 28th April, now’s the time to start preparing your mind and body. Even if you’re not partaking in this event (and we can’t say we blame you), it’s always a good idea to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle, and who knows – maybe we’ll make a marathon-runner of you yet!
With this in mind, we’re delighted to have been mentioned by nutritionist and all-round superstar Kim Pearson in Runner’s World. ‘How to eat your way to a marathon PB’ is full of wonderful tips on how to look after yourself correctly in the run-up to the marathon.
Kim’s advice includes drinking a calming cup of green tea to help ease pre-race jitters, and adding magnesium to a warm bath to relax your muscles, as well as using vitamin C to maintain a healthy immune system. After all, nobody wants the sniffles on race day!
Kim went on to mention us as her probiotics of choice:
“[Live cultures] are available in supplement form at higher doses than we can consume in food alone. I recommend Optibac ‘For Every Day Extra Strength’.”
The article also emphasised the importance of a balanced diet, focusing particularly on areas that are important to athletes, such as sufficient protein intake for energy levels. Other nourishing foods for runners are bananas, which also provide an energy boost, and nuts, to help balance the blood sugar, and which also contain omega-3 to maintain healthy cholesterol.
Give Kim Pearson's chosen friendly bacteria, ‘For every day EXTRA Strength’, a try. It’s easy to take, great for when you’re on the run, and doesn’t require refrigeration. Perfect for anyone with an active lifestyle!
Finally, we’d like to wish everyone who’s taking part in the marathon the best of luck! Take heed of Kim’s excellent tips and remember – the road to good health is a marathon, not a sprint.
