The Sunday Telegraph's Stella magazine featured yours truly in the Health section at the weekend, in a piece about stomach upsets! A reader asked, 'I get stomach upsets very easily. I get sick if I eat anything too rich, and whenever I travel I spend the first few days in the bathroom with diarrhoea. How can I toughen up my stomach?'
Nutritionist Mel Brown said:
"You may need to repopulate your gut with immune-boosting bacteria... when you travel take Optibac Probiotics For travelling abroad."
Brilliant! She then went on to recommend some more tips for healthy digestion:
"To help your liver and gall bladder deal with rich foods eat beetroot, watercress and rocket, and sprinkle lecithin granules on food. Avoid antacids and prescription antihistamines as they reduce stomach acid, which is the first line of defence against food poisoning."
Naturopath Susan Curtis also wisely stated:
"The most likely explanation is that you have a slight imbalance in your intestinal flora, which can upset digestion. This can be helped by taking a probiotic supplement, such as acidophilus capsules, for three months continuously and then before and during travel. Eating live yoghurt and bananas (a prebiotic) regularly will help, too."
Ms Curtis clearly also knows what she is talking about!
We are just delighted to feature in the stylish Stella magazine, many thanks Melanie Brown for the mention, and thank you to reader Charlotte James for spotting the mention and letting us know!
